Fast growing hedges, such as Cherry Laurel or Lonicera, may need two prunes per year to keep them in check. Normally, one prune is sufficient, especially if this is carried out after the main year's growth has finished - usually in July or August.

A light clip in the autumn will keep the hedge tidy through the winter.
